I thought the fights last night were pretty entertaining. What did you all think? Of those who watched anyway...

Here's my take!

CB vs Jesse Taylor - I have NEVER seen a Peruvian necktie, that was SWEET!!!! And to end the fight with it... wow! I'm so glad JT lost. I don't care if he is "cleaning his life up", a 6 month hiatus isn't enough for me to forget about how much of an idiot this guy is and how big of a black eye he gave to the sport. I don't think he deserved to come back yet. When you listen to the guy talk, he sounds like someone is holding his nose and he's trying not to go all high pitched on you and his vocabulary is equivalent to any 6 year old. He's also NOT entertaining to watch. CB however is very entertaining to watch and clearly (based on the way he finished the fight) brings something different to the table. By the way, I'm glad Amir beat CB at TUF finale. Amir's got amazing heart and skill, and has the personality to boot!

Johnson vs Burns - this was an extremely entertaining fight that I think Johnson would have won, and deserved to win. If I were the ref, I would have DQ'd Burns for the repeated eye pokes. Then at the end of the fight we find out that Burns can't throw a closed fist because he broke his hand 3 times. That dudes career is probably over now. Who's going to book him and more importantly, who's going to want to fight him? Johnson was a class act after the fight and IMO, shouldn't have his record tarnished by this lost.

Velasquez was quick and entertaining. Ground and pound clinic. O'Brien just got schooled. No other way around it. Good solid win for Velasquez as O'Brien is a game dude.

Hermes Franca vs Frankie Edgar - this was a dominant performance by Edgar. Truly establishing Edgar as a contender for the belt in 2 or less fights from now, IMO. My only problem with him is that he doesn't tend to finish fights. However, all 3 rounds are generally entertaining as the guy never says die and apparently has the conditioning to go 3 hard rounds. It would be interesting to pair him up with Sherk (who I still think should be banned from the sport) and see if he can keep up with his cardio. It'll also be interesting to see if he can keep his pace for more than 3 rounds.

Vera vs Andy - booooooriiiiiiiiiiiing. This was snore fest. It was the only fight of the night that I fast forwarded through and it appears I didn't miss much based on Joe's interview afterwards. Vera looked a lot better at 205 but apparently didn't start cutting weight soon enough and felt the effects of it. I think he still looked quite flabby so he sould either work to build more muscle weight and burn a comparable amount of fat weight, or just trim down even further to 185. He'd be dominant at that class until he met up with Silva.

Speaking of Silva...

Silva vs Irvin - wasn't an entertaining fight. Because it didn't last that long! lol Result went as I expected but happened sooner. I figured it would be over in the first round or midway through the second, not 61 seconds into it with only 1 real offensive barrage courtesy of Silva. That finish was spectacular and really demonstrates that Silva can easily hold his own at 205. I'd like to see him take on tougher competition in that class. Perhaps Liddel or Rampage!? If he walks through them, I think he would be the #1 contender for the belt and would WAX Forrest Griffin. Which would be a shame as I REALLY like Griffin.
Matter of fact, I can't think of a Heavyweight who I believe could beat Silva. He walks around already in that weight class as it is. Granted those guys would be bigger, but BJJ is all about a smaller guy controlling a larger guy anyway. And we know Silva's striking is second to none. I think the heavyweights are probably the LEAST exciting division right now. I say let Silva win the light heavyweight title by beating Griffin and then put him up against Lesnar to see if he can handle his strength and size. If so, title shot. You telling me Silva couldn't beat Noguiera or Gonzaga?? I have no doubts that he could!

Because the main event was so quick, we were treated to Brodie Farber vs Rory Markham. I LOVE knockouts! This one was BEAUTIFUL and will serve as a reminder to all fighters that you NEVER drop your hands and chase someone around the ring. That kick to the chin knocked Farber out before he hit the mat! Beautiful! I'd like to see more of Markham. He's obviously got knockout power and he's very humble, yet charismatic. Good guy from what I could tell.

So all in all, a quality card last night. Only one real dissapointing/boring fight (Vera) out of 7. Not bad. I've seen PPV's that only had one GOOD fight all night.

After the fights. Checked on the boas and found a real nice poop in a cage JUST after cleaning the cage before the fights. Gotta love how they keep you on your toes, huh?! It was courtesy of this girl

Thanks!

Nice Snake!

Last nights fights were awesome except for the Vera fight and the Burns decision with the eye poke, I do not know what the judges were thinking when they gave him that win. The Silva win was expected but as you said not that quick. I was really impressed with Edgar he was a BEAST out there last night, he dominated the whole fight. He almost lost it in the end with that blow to the head but he quickly took it back to the ground and held Franca down for that last few seconds. All of the knock outs they showed before the fight had me glued to the TV. MMA is where its at!

I love that sunglow Marcus! That was my favorite from the litter. I had his brother which was the second best from the litter but he got traded for my T+ boy when you could still get 10-12k for a Sharp sunglow. How are is babies doing from last year? My male motley from him is doing great and will be ready to go this season! Is the sunglow still over At J.S.'s? I'm heading over to his place tomorrow morning for a few days. Which kinda sux cause I don't have the money I had last year and when your in a boa emporium like his you tend to see something you want! Anyways, hope your year is going well. I won't be makin it out to Daytona this year but you should try to get out here to Anahiem one of these years. I'll show you what Cali's all about!(; A quick pic of his bro as a baby.

I do not believe the Silva would beat Noguiera. Rodrigo is too big and don't forget that the Noguiera brothers is where Anderson got his BJJ black belt. I think he could do damage in the heavyweight division, but couldn't beat anyone of any caliber, just too big for him. I think he can be dominant at 205 though, he looked great being a bit bigger.

My thoughts on that were that Silva is a Muay Thai fighter who also happens to be an excellent jiu jitsu practicioner. I think he would use his speed and power to pick apart Noguiera while standing, his Muay Thai to punish on the inside if Noguiera got close enough, and his jiu jitsu "in reverse" to avoid take downs and submissions.
I think his precise striking, knockout power and strength and skills in the clinch is enough to at a minimum, win a decision. However I don't think it would get that far. I think Silva would either knock him out, or cut him up so bad he couldn't continue.

I think if it was a JJ competition, I don't think he'd win.

Also, we'll never see that as I don't see Silva going up to weight classes to heavyweight... but I think it would be SWEET!
