Don't forget the salad!

Rosebuds Jul 20, 2008 10:48 AM

When I first started keeping collareds, I read a few care sheets, and followed Eve's care sheet most closely because all of her lizards look so darned healthy! One thing that she stresses in it that other care sheets either omit or gloss over, is the importance of salad for collareds. I have also read that collareds eat greens and flowers in the wild. So, I always make sure to put at least a small amount of salad in their vivs when I dole out breakfast for my birds and herbivorous lizards. The salad is not always eaten by some of the collareds, but the salad that I put in my biggest Eastern viv is gone at the end of every day. I know that some of it is eaten by the crix, but I can tell from the collared poops that they are definitely eating the salad as well.

So, don't forget the greens!

My guys (1:2) won't eat salads (greens and/or fruit) at all. All the literature says that they're omnivorous, but not mine. I wonder if they have been so hypo-proteinemic that they won't touch vegetable matter until their protein levels are topped off ?
