abberant albino nelsons offspring.

myotismn Jul 20, 2008 11:16 AM

I have an female aberrant albino nelsons that bred for the first time this year. The father is pretty normal looking. I was hoping that when the came out that some would look somewhat like their mother. However, they all hatched last week and look normal. If anything, some have mostly bullseyes unlike either parent. How does aberrant patterns work genetically with nelsoni? Is a trait that can be passed down?

It depends on MANY factors,.....first off, BOTH parent's MUST have the same genetically "proven" trait, either in it's visual(homozygous) state,...or AT LEAST they both must be recessive(heterozygous) carriers of a specific hereditary trait if you want it to be passed on to the offspring at ALL.

The truth is, many aberrant patterns are NOT hereditary, and just pop up in clutches from time to time,...while other aberrant traits are indeed genetic, such as the "bullseye" pattern, and some others. But the bottom line is, that BOTH parents have to carry the gene, ANY gene or else the offspring will simply be normal in most cases.....although many aberrant things can still happen even then, but most aberrant stuff in milks isn't really predictable,...but there are definitely some exceptions to this.

Those are nice looking nelsoni, and I would be quite happy with those!

Your "aberrant" is actualy nothing more than a average bullseye that would have a little more black than normal thats all.

Nice looking babies though.
