Need some info on Guyana boa constrictor

snakekate Jul 20, 2008 01:11 PM

I recently got a 6 foot Guyana red tail boa, and i need some info. I am pretty experianced with snakes, I already have a colombian boa, pythons and kingsnakes, but I cant find any really good info on the Guyana. She is very nice looking and has a great teparament, and is healthy. But i want to know a bit more about her full adult size, and any special requirements she needs that are different than my colombian(heat, humidity?). I heard that boas that are " boa constrictor constrictor" grow larger and heavier than boas that are "boa constrictor Imperter" Is this tru with the Guyana? Please give me any information that can help me give her the best care!

Yes Guyanas as well as Surinames, peruvians, and others are BCC.

As a general rule they do have the genetic potential to get larger and heavier than your common columbian BCI. That doesnt necessarily mean she will though.

Adult females are commonly in the 7-8' range ... occasionally you will see a true 9' specimin and even more rare are the actual 10 footers but dont hold your breath on her getting much larger then 8'. Sure it can happen, but more then likely not.

Requirements are pretty much the same, take care of her the same way you take care of your columbian and you will be fine. Although BCC do seem to be slightly more sensitive to cooler temperatures whereas columbians are typically more hardy.

I would suggest one great website Riobravo Reptiles Gus
A. Rentfro . He has very specific information on several Boa species. You can look under Surnam Boas they are the smae really as Guyanan Boas. I'll leave you a Link.
