Breeding Bogs

s-holden Sep 03, 2003 11:08 AM

I have a permit and will be buying a pair of legal captive bred bog turtle soon. I would like to breed them in the future and therefore would like to know how easy it is to breed them in captivity. Do they thrive and breed well in captivity like spotted turtles?

They can thrive well, but are hard to breed. Their nesting requirements are quite specific.

Go to:

and download it for your files. It also has references to further info.

Good luck.

And if you need help differentiating the two sexes for these beautiful endangered creatures, check out the new sexing page on bog turtles via the link below under "newest web articles".

I would like to suggest that you wait and do more research on these turtles before buying them. If you are this close to getting them and have questions like this, I suspect that there'll be gaps in your knowledge on their husbandry as well. These animals are too delicate, and too expensive to allow for a learning curve.

I agree completely, if you have any questions at all regarding this species one has to wonder why you would be getting them in the first place. These aren't painteds or sliders here.
