I posted this not too long ago, but it was taken off...i can't understand why.
I was left a little dumbfounded this breeding season with 3 of my females that i put to breed. Using an ultrasound machine, i monitored their follicle growth and watched as they grew from small follicles (around 8-10mm) to large (40-45mm) which is the size typical of when they ovulate.
During this cycle, of course i had a male in with all three of them and had witnessed multiple copulations. I was excited and pretty sure i was going to see an ovulation pretty soon on all of them. But then, as it seemed from one day to the next, they disappeared...no more follicles, no ovulation. All that i was able to find via ultrasound were tiny newly developed follicles ready for the next cycle.
My conclusion is that females can go into cycle but not ovulate, but to happen on 3 of 8 females i had going this season left me wondering if it was that commmon of an occurrence, or something else, i don't know.
I'd appreciate anybody's thoughts on this.
Here is a link to an ultrasound image of one of these follicels at around 46mm.
