Some Morph help

JasonW Jul 21, 2008 03:25 PM

I am trying to determine in my software what I will get if I breed one or both of my females to my male Okeetee when he gets older but the program dose not list "Okeetee" Can anyone tell me what genes make an okeetee so I can put those in and figure it out?

Well then how do you determine the variation when bred with a morph? Just common sense I imagine? So if I bred him with my Albino I will just come out with maybe Albino and Normals Het for Albino right? Or would they be considered Okeetees Het for Albino? I am getting more confused LOL

You have much to learn about the holy temple serpent, and what is needed to spawn forth the white man's genetic mutations!.

When you can "snatch" the shriveled snake egg from my hand, it will be time for you to leave the sacred Okeetee temple, oh young one!

okeetee (normal) to amel will give you all normals het amel
I personally feel that once you introduce a "morph" into the okeetee line then only the ones that meet the "okeetee criteria" should be called okeetees. IE... thick black borders, deep, contrasting saddle and background colors.
BUT...This is MY opinion on the subject...which doesn't really mean much...lol
I look at it as okeetee to okeetee = okeetee...even slightly inferior...but okeetee to non okeetee only the ones that have the "look" are okeetee or okeetee phase.

but this could simply serve to revive the never ending conflict/discussion as to what is or is not an okeetee.

So if it has thick sadel borders but it is Amel would you consider it an Amel Okeetee??

You have to be careful, as thick borders != Okeetee.
There are many definitions of what makes an Okeetee phase but I believe all of them require more than just thick borders.

From Kathy Love's book:

- bug husky race (pg 147), deep red dorsal blotches ringed by well-defined jet black borders. The ground color ranges from russet to bright orange and is contrasted clearly and cleanly by distinctive black (pg 148)

The belly has a prominent squarish black checkerboard pattern covering it, and tends to have a white ground color for most of its length (pg 149)

The corn on the cover of Kathy's book is what I would describe as an amel Okeetee - as it looks like an amel version of that description. A lot of corns sold as "reverse okeetee" I don't think would fit the definition of Okeetee at all if they were not amel.
