alex_reid33 Jul 21, 2008 07:26 PM

im lookin at getting a burm and i have a spare room 10x12' and im trying to think of things i can do to snake proof it so he cant escape plus im worried about the moisture causing mold so hoow you i seal out the walls and the floor to make them water proof?

If it were me I'd tile the floor and also tile part of the walls as you often see if bathrooms. Basically a tile wainscoting like this:

I think this would add a lot of value to your home and be somewhat easy to clean. You should probably put down a moisture barrier between the walls/floor and the tile. Look into your local code for such work as what might work here may not work in your area.

For making the room escape proof, I'm pretty sure a typical room should be pretty close assuming it does not have attic access with a push up door or a drop ceiling.

Is there some area that you are particuarly worried about?

Boy, I wish I had the income to afforad marble tile wainscoting for a snake cage.

I just hope they are adopting a Burm rather than adding to the beast...

Cheers

Good point, to clarify I would use a porcelain or ceramic tile. That picture was the best example I found in google to demonstrate what I had in mind. Still expensive, but not a bad way to put some equity in the home if it's workable and affordable and it fits with the house.

what would also be the best way to heat a large room like that? i have a radiant heat panel heating my large boa cages, would i just want to get a larger one of those?

They do make radiant heat panels for rooms so that is one option. I would probably also make a lower basking area for the snake. A raised platform with a heat panel underneath it so the snake can either bask underneath or crawl on top.
