Water Dishes for Shoebox Rack

SpectreBCIs Jul 22, 2008 02:14 PM

I was wondering what people use for water dishes in their shoebox containers. I just put togther my 48 box rack and am currently using an assortment of lids from my tupperware containers. Hoping someone has a better suggestion. Thanks.

alternatives...

The ones I use are the mini-est of mini crocs. Im pretty sure thats what they're called, "croc bowls" or something like that. Theyre just good quality plastic bowls made in all sizes.

Jeff Ronne uses these disposable lids that are untippable inside the racks because of the size of the lid. This is a nice feature. I'm constantly cleaning up tipped water bowls in those size racks. The only drawback is that the lid can be tilted and the snake jammed inbetween the lid and the roof... which can then crush the boa if you forcefully tried to open the tub.

I use these little three inch dishes I got at the local pet store. I too had a hard time finding something I liked and finally had to bite the bullit and pay for them.

we use the dishes you can find at walmart for like 2.40. they are hard pastic and come in a bunch of sizes and are well built.

easiest, simplest and cheapest solution are the disposable water bowls from superiorenterprise.com Basically a deli cup with a hole in the lid. Tall enough that they can't be tipped, large enough for the baby to fully imerse itself in water. I wash mine out and only throw one away when really nasty or cracked.

I agree Dave, I use disposable 16 oz deli cups for my ARS racks with built in bowl, essentially the liner.

With 500 on hand a few used in shoe boxes till the boas are big enough to grow into the CB-70. Are hardly noticed, and they throw away so easy...Wish I could find something similar for my big girls....

LOL

We use the 4oz disposable "hot sauce" or "souffle" containers from Smart and Final. I hot glue one in each shoebox and then simply place a new one filled with water into that receptacle whenever a water change is needed.

don't remember what they're called, but i get mine at wal-mart in the pet section, little pastel colored plastic deals, probably intended for rats/mice.

This is exactly what I use as well. I like Lavender for girls and light blue for boys. Too bad I have a bunch of green, yellow, red ,and dark blue as well. They all work just fine though .Plus all different sizes for different enclosures.
Bryan I'm borrowing your pic, nice Hypo !

PVC caps, 4", 6", 8".. example:

I buy them by the case from the supply house. Easy to clean and they last forever.. I have 2-3 for each cage and keep fresh ones handy to swap out.
.

.. that's my suggestion.

Do you still have that BCC that is pictured in the tub? That is a great looking snake. Thanks for the tip on water bowls. I bet those would fit alot better in the dishwasher than the bowls I'm using now.

Take Care,

Kevin

I just cut the bottom of water bottles and use those as water bowls for babies, they worked okay and it did not cost me a thing but I really like your idea and will have to take a trip to Home Depot tomorrow.

SpectreBCIs Jul 22, 2008 10:45 PM

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm sure the little ones will apreciate them as well!

I use the xtra small crocs readily sold at most pet shops, i get them off of herpsupplies.com, then i slip a 3.25 ounce portion cup which i toss and replace every time i water, 500 cups for like 10 bucks or something and you dont have to be "dish washing" all the time, i only clean them after 6 months or if poop gets on them. you can find portion cups on ebay or any restaurant supply merchant this is a picture of what im talking about:
