female boa spurs

snakekate Jul 22, 2008 07:05 PM

This is tricky, I have a BCI that was sold to me as a female, she is about 16 months old and approx. 38 inches long. I keep reading that female spurs can hardly be seen, but hers are pretty visible. Also my BCC female(2 years 65 inches)spurs can barely be seen. Is there a chance my BCI could possible be a male? I know probing is the way to determine gender 100% but I'd rather not be invasive if i can(and dont have the tools). Her tail is about 3 inches long and does resemble the BCC. I also dont have a male to compare to. Can anyone give me some info on spurs and the possible gender?

Tail length and spur size are good indicators of boa gender but i have seen females with long tails and big spurs(bigger and longer than some males). If you plan to commit to a certain feeding regimen based on one gender then i think its worth getting out the lube.
