Polycarbonate enclosures

bakeaway Jul 23, 2008 09:08 AM

Hey,
Does anyone know of companies that make rack systems using polycarbonate boxes instead of rubbermaid, etc.
I want my next rack to be made of that...or has anyone made a rack using that. And if so,how did you heat it?

Habitat Systems uses the polycarb boxes. Many companies will custom make the rack around whatever boxes you want to use - just contact them directly. I have used them with custom built racks and prefer them over the standard tubs. Its just a matter of paying the extra cost. Heating the racks is no different than with any other tub.

ARS did some pre-production work on racks they currently offer with poly boxes, but I don't know how far it went. Last I checked with Brian they were considering a rack around an exsisting box, but I'm not sure. They may or may not offer their hatchling rack with a clear poly box.

Also Animal Plastics has a rack I believe based on a poly box but I'm not quite sure.

Cheers

His racks use polycarbonate boxes. The sizes of the adult boxes are not real large, since he designed these around rosyboas.

By the way, poly boxes are food-safe, meaning they do not emit levels of chemicals that are considered dangerous for humans. That is a good thing when considering a home for a snake. You can tell too, because these boxes have almost no plastic odor when new, and after a few weeks are odor free.

Lucky you to be able to get them at cost, good poly boxes are not cheap as you know. I wondered what bakeaway might mean.
