Cycling....

JbuggFL Jul 23, 2008 01:08 PM

This upcoming season will be my first season attempting to breed ball pythons.. I was wondering if I could get some advice on when and how I should begin cycling.. I have all my ball pythons in 2 racks with flexwatt and thermostats set at 85degrees.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated??

ALSO, all the tubs in my rack are identical size and I put air holes in them with a sautering iron the same way.. BUT one of the tubs is always fogged out like the humidity is higher in it. I use papertowels as subtrate and same size water dishes in all the tubs What could cause this? I tryed switching the tub into a different slot and there was no change the rack is on a herpstat and uses 3inch flex watt it is melamine.. Thanks Again!!!

For the tub I would add one or 2 more holes for ventilation.

As far as cycling everyone does it different.I use heat tape for hot spots and an electric oil filled heater for ambient temps.Make sure the ambient temp does not drop below 80 degrees. I start around Oct 15 and cut off the heat for 1-2 hours at night. Over the course of a couple months I increase the amout of time they are off till I get 14 hours off and 10 hours on. Around mid march first of April I slowly start to heat them up. I am not a big breeder and this is not the only way to cycle them. Good luck.

When do you start introducing in the males? Does where you live as far as outside temperature effect breeding? I live in South Florida in October it might be 85degrees here and 35 in Michigan.. I'm looking for alittle bit more detailed information on the whole process. What are the exact temperature I should drop down to because my house maybe 68degrees at night and yours might be 78 so I don't feel comfortable in just unplugging the heat for a couple hours at night I need a more specific guide and time line to follow.. If you don't feel like breaking it down into detail can you refer me to a website that does I have been looking around for information and there is a lot of NICE clutches being produced and posted here I just want to know how you all do it. TEACH ME!! Thanks for your help and advice.

Keep your heat on 24/7 and let all the ambient changes do all the work for you. It's not hard to do in Florida. Pressure changes are your best friend, and usually result in some instant gratification.

I ran across this breeding calendar one day on "8 Ball Pythons" web site.

www.8ballpythons.com/journal/breedingcalendar.htm

It is a very nice and detailed breeding schedule. We follow a very similar schedule and it works great for us.

Good Luck!
