Which do you like more and which do you think has a stronger potential in the boa world, Arabesque or Jungle?

Monster Tail Hypo Jungles:

A bit of a kidding response with the SSP there, but I would say Jungle for sure seriously.

JaredHorenstein Jul 24, 2008 12:28 PM

As there is a visible super that is quite stunning.

I think it is easier to achieve visually stunning specimens with the Jungle, expecially the supers. However, there appear to be alot more people working with Jungles (non-scientific observation), so assuming you are speaking of market potential, Arabesques may become comparatively under-represented in the market and command higher prices. I also think there is much more to do with the Arabs than has been achieved to date. Of course the same is true of Jungles, but then we are back to the number of folks working with Jungles vs. Arabs.

Anywho, I am working with both because I personally like intense colors and patterns over the "washed out" look. And of course there's the Squaretails, which kinda look like a cross between a Jungle and an Arab, those are pretty cool too.

And the final answer is....do what YOU like and you can't go wrong!

Mark is right.

It also depends on what you are going to breed with that Jungle. If the question really is, "what should I breed into the Scoria project?" That is a really tough one. Really tough. What more can be made using those screaming crazy animals? Really really tough. The bottom line though is this; we don't really know what a Jungle Scoria will look like. The same is true if bred with any of the other pattern morphs. We just don't know. It could make something really crazy though. I think the conventional wisdom is the Scoria would override anything else that is combined with it, but I'll go out on a limb, as I love to do, and say I'm not so sure. Something completely unexpected could arise. I'd bet it will. Nobody knows... yet. Then again, the safe route to take is a color morph. Or a combo color and pattern morph animal so if there isn't something crazy that results from the pattern mutation, you will still have something from the breeding in the way of a color mutation or a Scoria that is het for a color mutation.

That's my 2 cents worth... and worth every penny.

I dont really see the reason for the amount of excitement over jungles, even super jungles but thats just me. If the scoria project is what is being bred into, then Id say use a Motley. I dont know much on the genetics compatibility but I think a Motley Scoria or Super Motley Scoria would be stunning!!

I love Arabesque Boas especially Albino & Sunglows. The Jungle Boas just have something extra more dimension.
Plus as pointed out there is always the Super Jungle form to look forward to.

hands down!

giantkeeper Jul 24, 2008 09:49 PM

or was....Arabesque boas seem to be weak genetically...whether it's from lack of new blood or from a bad gene. Who knows!? There certainly are more around these days and the trait seems to be much stronger than in years past.

Jungles are bad @ss, and go great with everything. Problem has already been stated...everyone has one now.

If your looking to mix the Scoria with something, you should talk with Big Mike and grab a few of his Paradigms.

Scoria is such a strong pattern morph along with being an extremely strong color morph that I wouldn't do anything but play with the colors for a while. A few of the pattern morph combos we've already seen have been less than attractive. Scorias are already unique in pattern, now jack them up with some funky colors!

I like them both, for the hobby jungles have more of a future, for me i have a personal and sentimental love for arabs because they were the first morph i saw in my late teens growing up when steve hammond was offering them..also they're a bit tricky to breed i hear, im 0 for 2 in 2008. hope this helped. It all depends on what you want to get out of them ....

IMO, nice clean Jungles are the best on their own. Arabesques however make the better morphs with Albinos and Sunglows but Super Jungles are awesome and I like them better with Hypos (Hypo Jungles) and Super Jungle Hypos are outstanding (I want one !)

No one has mixed either of them with Bloods yet and I think both will be equally good with T /Caramel Albino ... so all depends on what you want to mix them with.

cheers, John
