Recognize these at all?

huff747 Jul 24, 2008 05:43 PM

Kind of a long story carried over from my twins thread. I had a female that I just kind of thought was a dark good contrasted female. I bred her a couple years ago and when her babies hatched 5 really stood out looked exactly like her dark (deep orange) and with the spot on the top of her head (even more extreme since babies tend to have better color) and one looked normal. So I thought maybe it was something dominant and I kept most of them around and as they've grown I've kind of thought perhaps she might be a black pastel so I bred one of the sons that looked like mom back to her.

The eggs pipped and I got twins in one but I can see at least one of the babies looks like mom, two of the babies look like the girl below so it would appear that it was some sort of co-dom trait and this is a super form but I just didn't know if anybody recognized what it was or not.

So short version, I'm not really sure what they are but in this clutch I can see normals, co-doms, and supers.

Pics of "super" with a normal - none of the co-dom forms are out of the egg yet

i would say it isnt a black pastel its something new because if you bred a son that looks like her to her theyd produce super blacks pastels or solid black snakes.

I like the mom and the Super does in fact look really weird....I like it!

Post some more pics..

Grats!

I'd have to agree that it is something new. Congratulations!

Breed it (the Super) to something else other than a normal and see how it affects the morph.

The coloration is cool on the Super, but I really like the mottled sides - I wonder what it would look like with a Calico (or any other morph that affects lateral color and/or pattern).

We all know that you've thought of (at least) a couple names... care to share with the rest of us?

I know to some it may be preemptive to assume you have a new co-dom morph on your hands, but I haven't seen anything like it before.

Maybe someone else can prove me wrong.

I can honestly say no names were thought up. I did my best not to get my hopes up that she was anything, and what hope I did have was that they'd throw super black pastels. So since that didn't happen it's now become a question of what are they then? I'm still assuming somebody else has produced the same and I just don't know about it

the more i look at these and the more i think about them, they remind me of ralph davis Black head morphs.

Sorry but... THIS is a Black Head!!! Guess I get burned out hearing the name 'Black Head' applied to Ball Pythons. Just don't make no sense to me... what would I call them? Who knows... Probably Black Headed Balls! :P I will admit, Ralph's Black Head type Balls are pretty interesting and will likely make for some killer combos but would never stand a chance in the same cage as the 'King of Australia'. Sorry, I'm just a BHP nut these days! Still keep a bunch of Ball Pythons which I enjoy a whole lot, but I've got to tell you, there's NO snake to compare to BHP. They are just incredible in my opinion.

Mom's belly

Female from first breeding

With a normal

Male from first breeding

With a normal (who happens to be the very first ball python I ever owned. Good ole petshop normal male)

When the entire clutch is out of the egg I'll get some pics, because especially when they're babies you can see a difference between the normals and what I thought first time around were black pastels. And then with the supers in there I think it'll be a little more descriptive.
