my ruthveni eggs hatched last week, as soon as some of them shed I will post up some pics. Either I wrote down the wrong dates on the incubaion boxes or this was the longest incubation period ever... if I wrote the correct dates, over 80 days for each clutch. the eggs looked good throughout but boy I was getting a little tight. I am not one to go around cutting eggs open before they pip and it is probably just as well.
and now some rehash...last year there was some discussion over whether there was some effect of temperature on sex determination in P ruthveni, that a lower temperature produces more females. I have been incubating at 78-79 degrees F for the last six years and if my math is correct, my total numbers are 32.26. Maybe I am at the wrong temperature or it is regulated by genes...
either way pines are the coolest animals to work with.
