Phantom and Peabino and a few new hatchl

Bluerosy Jul 24, 2008 09:41 PM

I still don't have a good camera yet. Mine washes out the reds and yellows of the Peabino and Golden.

Anyone that has seen the peabino in person will tell ya it is much better in person. The yellows are neon and the oranges glowing.

Phantom yealing. It is getting more white .

Peabino:

Newly hatched Golden Peanit butter female (& sibs):

siblings to the true snow. Sulfur normal, lav and T neg:

The Phantom is a double homozygot Peanut Butter X BHB Anerythristic.

The Peabino is a dbl homo PB x Sulfur lav

The Pewter is a Dbl homo Jelly x axanthic.

The Phantom is a nice animal, though i believe the PB-AXANTHIC 2x Homozygous animal will be a much nicer/unique animal.

Anery (Black and white) would yield a WHITE snake when you introduce a gene like PB or Hypo it'll be cool to see a comparison btwn that phantom and the Hypo-Anery "boneyard" just hatched out as i believe they will look very similar as adults.

did you keep any "Golden PB's" from last season? any updated pix?

Also:

"Pewter" is an axanthic Jelly? how did you come up with that? from my understanding the "Pewter" was the result of Jelly x 2x Peanut Butter and White-Sided? where'd the axanthic come from?

i assume when it is of age/size you'll pair him to him mom? but until then i don't think you should give a definite as to WHAT he is.

The het female used was from a joint pairing i did with Swampland reptiles. I sent him a Pb male which he said he bred to a female whitesided and sent me some babies.. I am gathering that since the WS came from the axanthics that is where the axanthic gene came from. His Ws must have been het for axanthic as well.

or maybe he used a visual axanthic WS? I can't get in touch with him for two years to find out since he is not answering my emails.

Zenny,
Have you noticed how your WS also have the pitch black eyes as the pewter?

Just wanted to say, that Phantom is AMAZING !!!
That's what I always visioned a "True" Ghost Brooks to look like.
Very Nice man.
Any recent pics. of the Pewter??

Walter

daveb Jul 25, 2008 07:12 PM

You WAS going to say??? What changed you mind..........LOL
Actually Dave, I haven't seen the Pewter, except for the hatchling pic. Rained posted and it surley didn't bring Ghost to mind.
As you know my passion is cornsnakes and I've been breeding them forever and the Pewter Brooks Rainer produced is EXACT coloration as the Pewter Corns, which aren't close to Ghost.

I guess it still remains to be seen what the Pewter Brooks looks like as an adult to see if the term Pewter fits. It sure does as a hatchling.

Walter,
That was not a hatchling pic but a yearling pic.

here it is from a different angle:

So since you are the rsident cornsake morph expert can you tell us what the "Ultra" in corns originated from ...W/C or another morph? Have you worked with the Ultra and Ultramels?

Here is a Bone white hypo just for kicks and giggles:

Ultra came from the grey rat snake and is co-dom with amel in corns.

Walter Smith Jul 26, 2008 08:27 AM

If you don't mind, could you direct me to where I can read the actual PROOF of this?

Thanks, Walter

wisema2297 Jul 26, 2008 01:18 PM

I'm getting it and will send it to you..........

wisema2297 Jul 26, 2008 09:22 PM

My info came from Don Soderberg about 2 years ago. I'll send you a PM with the info when I get it.

Walter Smith Jul 26, 2008 08:49 AM

So the first two pics here are the "Pewter" ???
The BoneWhite is also AWESOME !!! Where did that morph come from??

On the Ultra gene, here is what I know.
Back in the early 2000's, maybe even the late 90's Mike Shriver (Mike's Motleys) had produced something he was calling a Super Amber or something like that, which is now what as known as the GoldDust (An Ultramel Caramel) at the same time a few people were producing what they thought at the time was yet another new Hypo trait, because of the VERY close ressemblance.
AOLT of EXTENSSIVE breeding trials have been done since and during these trails, it has been PROVEN to be allelec to the Amel. trait at the Amel Locus.
It was also thought by some that this trait did originate from the hybridization of a Corn X Grey Rat. A breeding trial of those seperate species was done and just last year was prooven by Russell Keys, that the White Oak rat does NOT carry the Ultra gene and more test breedings are still being done till today.
I do work with the Ultra / Ultramel corns, but have been for only a couple years, so I'm still learning about these as well.

Walter

FunkyRes Jul 26, 2008 09:00 AM

That was the breeding trial I had heard about.
I did not know the results. Thanks!

I decided my old sig was too big.

daveb Jul 25, 2008 08:02 PM

I couldn't remember what went into making a phantom so I had to ask in a post up above.

I thought the pewter was more "ghostlike"- if you strip off all the pattern from a ghost I thought the underlying color is similar whereas the phantom is more whitish. The other thing is the pewter and the ghost both have the "all dark" eyes. I don't think the iris and pupil on the phantom are both dark. Just like you I haven't seen an adult pewter picture.
If I had a choice of free snakes (hahahaha)I actually prefer the phantom and I would have to say that the phantom is going to be hard to beat.

$.02 and declining, lol

uh, upon seeing the yearling pewter, I'd say the phantom is more ghostlike...
