What are the Possibilities????

Latin1956 Jul 25, 2008 07:38 AM

I would like to hear what you guys think are the possibilities with this pairing!!!!!

I have 5 big eggs from this female Het Tangerine Albino/ 50% Het Hypo

Male Tangerine Albino/PH Hypo/Poss Homoz Hypo/ Poss Het Anery

Both were purchased from Terry Dunham.

Last year I breed het to the het male I got with her. I got 1 Tang Albino , 1 Tricolor Albino and 3 Normals. This year I decided to use the Male Tangerine Albino to see what produces.

So what could be produced if it is all the possibles that I mentioned??????

I will keep you all posted as soon as the eggs hatch out, they are due any day now..

Thank you in advance.

Tom

Best Case...male Hybino het Anery, female double het Hybino:

12.5% Het. Amel, Het. Hypo,
12.5% Het. Amel, Het. Hypo, Het. Anery,
12.5% Het. Amel, Homozygous Hypo,
12.5% Het. Amel, Homozygous Hypo, Het. Anery,
12.5% Homozygous Amel, Het. Hypo,
12.5% Homozygous Amel, Het. Hypo, Het. Anery,
12.5% Homozygous Amel, Homozygous Hypo,
12.5% Homozygous Amel, Homozygous Hypo, Het. Anery

in otherwords...all you can really say is:

25% Normals het Amel
25% Hypos het Amel
50% Amels

Worst case...male Amel, female het Amel:

50% Normals het Amel
50% Amels

so, that's why proving out your animals is so important...and really thinking about your pairings and the outcomes. Even the best case above...you still won't be able to tell which are just Amels...and which are Hybinos.

Also, check out this website: http://www.geneticswizard.com

Everyone that breeds snakes should have this site bookmarked...have fun with it!

In my opinion...you need a female Ghost or Hypo Het Anery...to prove out your male, and you need a Hypo, Ghost, Hybino, or Hypo Het Amel to prove out your female.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response!!! I will say this much! I will post pictures soon, because what I see in each egg already is not what you have stated. I get lost when the animal is marked as Amel/ or Homozygous!!!! I read the definition but I still do not get it. I expected at least some Albinos!! but none are! That is why I get so confused with all the terms.

Thanks Rusty!!!!

Single traits:
Hypos (Reduced Black Color and Pattern)
Anerys (Normal looking but no red, orange or yellow pigments, basically a Black and White snake)
Amels or Albinos (Normal looking but no black pigments, basically a red/orange/yellow and White/Yellow snake)

Combo traits:
Ghosts (Combination of Hypo and Anery)
Snows (Combination of Amel and Anery)
Hybinos (Combination of Hypo and Amel)
Pearls (Combination of Hypo, Amel and Anery, looks just like a Snow)

I won't get into the Falcon or Mega stuff...in this post.

Hope this info helps...another website for you to read is the following:
http://www.naturalselectionreptiles.com/Genetics.html

To oversimplify:
Dominant gene (D)
Recessive gene(r)

Wild type ( DD ) "normal"
Het. - having the gene, but hidden from view, ( Dr )"normal but carring the gene or HET."

Homo.- having the gene, and visible expressing it... ( rr ) "Homo Hypo, Homo Ghost, Homo etc....the Homo. term is rarely used...unless you live in San Fran...HA!

So that's why you just see, Hypo or Ghost used...
