Ball Python Won't Come Out Of Egg

mikesnake Jul 25, 2008 02:17 PM

I had a clutch of ball python eggs hatch. But one pastel baby won't come out. It pipped the egg on July 8, and it's been 17 days now. It's not deformed and looks fine, but there is still a good sized yolk sack attached to it. The yolk sack seems to be slowly decreasing in size, but not much. It's still about the size of a grape. This was the first one to pip and all the others were out by the 10th of July. I've been leaving it alone, but I've never had this happen and am not sure if this is normal or if I need to step in and do something. Thnaks for any help!

the hatchling could have it's umbilical cord wrapped around it's yolk. if you can see that it's shrinking then you should be good. but if i was you i would remove the hatchling from it's eggshell and check on it. you can always put the hatchling in a small bowl with damp napkins to help keep it moist until all of the yolk is absorbed.
