Hi! Recently my dog caught a garter while we were frisby golfing, and the snake was acting quite strange, so I brought her back with me.

The day before I was going to release her, she gave birth to 8 babies (3 stillborn)! A small litter, but still very neat! I can't believe how tiny the babies are! Anyways, these are common garters correct?

You didn't say where the snake was found (city, state) which would help, but that looks like a Chicago Garter to me.

Yup, found right outside of Chicago in Channahon, Illinois.

Chicago garters are a subspecies of the common garter?

Yes. They are a subspecies of the Eastern Garter with the subspecies name semifasciatus. They are distinguished by the black bars on the side of the neck.
