Snake Laws

Curious if anyone knows what laws apply to ball python breeding, are there laws governing amount of snakes one can have? do you need a business license, for sales? is this governed by state or federal or local city law? I live in Salt Lake County and plan on breeding pythons.

Since Ball Pythons aren't endangered, and they aren't venomous, you shouldn't have a problem with laws. There are no limits to the amount you can have, and you should be able to do decent business using cash only. If you go to like a nationwide web site or something like that you will probably need a business liscense (feds don't appreciate $50,000 a year or more business without taxes). The only thing I have heard of is some cities trying to get reptiles of any kind banned, but fortunately that hasn't happened in Salt Lake City.

Laws vary from state to state and even within city zones. I know here in Florida you are required to have a license to sell or exhibit eleven or more animals (class 3 license and does not include venomous).

Technically, you are required to report any income from selling reptiles if it's in the course of business (even a hobby) and/or it's over a certain amount of money. Of course, I don't know anyone who makes any money in this hobby LOL!
