Florida King - General Stuff

RayT3 Jul 28, 2008 01:15 PM

Here's a recent pic of my Florida King, Duke.
Not the best pic, I know. That's his feeding cage. He had just eaten a big meal.

Couple of general observations, and was wondering what anyone else's thoughts are on these:
First, From time to time I read about someone's snake that they hear sneezing. My Florida has sneezed from day one. Had him to the vet - he's fine. I've noticed that he sneezes most often after eating. I got to wondering, is he sneezing or burping? It sounds like a sneeze, but is it air from inside? Any thoughts?

Second, and just looking for observations: I've noticed my Florida eats in spurts. What I mean is sometimes he'll go a month and eat like mice and rats are going out of style, and sometimes he'll eat only half as much. This is not in spring or winter, as I know the cold and mating season throws them all out of whack. Just generally in the summer. I'm sure this is somewhat natural. Just wondering anyone's observations with their snakes.

Summer fasting is attributed to wanting a mate and not much else. Most of my males only eat about 1 mouse every 2-3 weeks during breeding seasons.

What about females? My female hasn't eaten in three weeks (feeding is every Sunday), but she seems perfectly healthy in every other way.

As for sneezing, she does sneeze mostly after eating and then after drinking a lot of water, which she also does right after eating. I have a brief video of her sneezing into her water bowl here:

Thanks Eddie!

My Florida sneezes a little more hardy, but then, he's over 5' long!
