What Locality is this?

ShedYourFears Jul 28, 2008 06:58 PM

I acquired this little lady a few days ago as a rescue...

She is TINY for her age...

The man who gave her to me told me she was 4 years old...she is probably 3.5ft, and pretty thin....

She is pictured in a 40 gal terrarium, so that gives you some idea of size...

The man fed her once monthly...i'm assuming for the past 4 years, although i am not positive...

Anyways, I was curious to see if anyone could determine what KIND of boa she is...

Her tail is nearly all black except for the reddish brown saddles... she's a grey-brown color...

I assumed she would be a normal columbian...but now i have no idea!

What do you think? Nicrauguan? Common? Columbian? Mutt?

thanks!
jessica

Looks like your typical common boa/Colombian/BCI. You'll never really know for sure, but that would be my guess.

Looks to be a reasonably healthy Nic to me
Congrats on the new mouth to feed

thanks for the suggestions

my first impression was she may be a nic...but i'm no expert on locality boas, so ya know

she seems to be in good condition, other than the fact that she is so small...it's hard to tell in the pics because she just had a rat last night

I can't tell you what it is but I can tell you what it's not...and there is no way that is a nicaraguan boa...at least not a pure one

just my 2 cents.

Given Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south PLUS the fact that there is eastern vs western varieties FURTHER combined with the Corn Island form, it is fair to say that there is a lot of variation among Nicaraguan boas depending on exactly where they are found (imo). Even in the various 80 nics that I currently have, there are some shared characteristics among them. As far as online, posted pictures go, I do not like to say what something is with 100% certainty simply b/c pics can come across differently on one computer vs another. I'll admit, it is far easier to say what something isn't. Anyway, I would say that your boa has some nic characteristics but I never claimed to be an expert so I would suggest that you contact the breeder and/or person you acquired it from to find out.

Given the collection methods of the 80's and the breedings from those being "just as" scattered. Add to that the lack of correct/valid documentation,no one can rightfully claim specific locale on 99% of the CA animals in USA culture.Granted some do and its just plain bad business, but its allowed.
The stuff that is farmed today is no different then the breedings done from the first imports, sadly the "scattered" just doesn't stick !

The entire Boa looks like a Colombian type Boa. Except when looking at that tail with that criss cross type pattern .The tail Reminds me of something C.A.. Who knows..?.?.?...
