UPS shipping ??'s

louie1 Sep 03, 2003 06:32 PM

I recently went to the UPS store to find out how to ship live reptiles and they said they do not ship live reptiles. I'm a little confused since I know most breeders use UPS. Am I missing something here?

This is my first year breeding leos and I have to say this has been the most rewarding hobby I've ever had. I succesfully bred about 21 leos with only two casualties. one egg didn't make it and one hatchling didn't make it either. All the others are as healthy as a horse.

Last question, is $125 shipped for 12 too much or too little?
Thanks for any responses in advance, Louie

First off, don't use the "UPS store". Go directly to the customer counter of your UPS terminal. You can ship live animals via UPS but you have to fill out and submit paperwork to them. You can get the paperwork by calling their customer service number and requesting it. Basically it releases them of liability should something happen to one of your packages. Once submitted it usually takes 7-10 days to process. They will then send you a letter that you can present uppon request to the agent at the counter showing that you are an approved live animal shipper.

Hope this helps,

This may be a dumb question but, would I have to package them myself or can they package them for me? It won't be a big deal to package them myself since I will be moving soon and have plenty of empty boxes.

I set up a UPS account online recently. They contacted me on the phone and sent the District Mgr. out to my house with the forms needed for shipping reptiles. he had fun checking out my Geckos and setups, helped fill out the needed forms and took them himself. a couple weeks later I recieved my authorization letter in the mail.
