One is Albino.
The other is not.

YEAH WHAT FUNKY SAID.

one is albino and the other is just a yellow snake.

With albinism and other RECESSIVE traits you have carriers of that gene that can be passed on. With a pheotype it gets washed out everytime you outcross it. The sulfur is just that. A simple trait and not a reccessive trait.

but the sulfur line was bred into the albino "trait" and that created a sulfur lavender

this is what they look like:

True names do change, but a nice sulfur is much more rich in color than any BHB Super Brooksi or Glades Canal Brooks. They truly are different in person. I know it's cliche', but pictures don't do them any justice at all. You want some High Yellow?.....here ya go. HY has been re-assigned to chondros. lol.

Sorry. I had to. I've sorta been traded to another team. lol. So, here is a king to stay on topic. I believe Tom Stevens has this girl now.

I thought SULPHUR was brought up to begin with because EVERYTHING was hi yellow.....and SULPHER was different. Now, no HI YELLOW except a random speckled king or cal king....Funny how names change.

foxturtle Jul 29, 2008 08:40 PM

That first started calling them Hi Yellow instead of brooks.

Len Krysko was also the first to name the Hi-Yellow School Bus Tampa kings "sulfur"

Very nice Brandon!

Hi-yellow implies actually yellow coloration. Brooks kings really don't have all that much yellow... more of a pale cream color.

If you made that comment daily for the next 5 years on here people still won't listen. I am guilty as charged with the high yellow thing but I wonder what type of response the hobby would have as far as demand goes over real pale Brooksi?

If you have seen brandons high whites they were the look more brooksi guys sought after and they had no yellow. These high whites were more common back then. i had some screamers but sold them after the hypos appeared on the market.

Still kinda hard to beat a yellow hypo brooks. Just that they are common now and the high whites have dissapeared. It seems things have a way of coming back around in this hobby. A subject we have discussed before between the two of us.

I don't think there are that many people that care what color their brooks is, or how patternless it looks. There are relatively few who know what a brooks king is supposed to look like, and most probably would not prefer that, or care all that much. As long as the snake is light colored, 95% of anyone is content to call it a brooks, and would be happy with it. I'm a perfectionist, and I strive to have the best looking wild-type (non-morph) examples of everything I keep, so I idealize the classic brooksi pattern and coloration.

My real point was that yellow isn't a very common color in Florida kings... often they have a very pale yellow coloration (not what I would call "High Yellow", and on most of them it is really just an extremely light brown coloration. Out of over 100 Florida kings I've caught, only 4 or 5 could really be said to have had yellow coloration. The captive kingsnake lines I think should be called high yellow are the sulfurs and mahogany kings, both of which originate from Hillsborough County, FL.

Tony D Jul 29, 2008 06:45 AM

Sulfurs are a locality derived color varient line bred for intense yellow coloration. Albino Brooks are crosses.
