OT: Post shed indigo pics

natsamjosh Jul 28, 2008 08:22 PM

I know, this is a poor attempt at beating Dave's "single post with most OT pics", but I guess a silver medal is not so bad.

He was in a pissy mood (hungry, I'm sure), first time I've seen
that. It was hard to get good pics, but I managed to get a few decent ones. The last one is interesting.

Thanks,
Ed

Belly before shed...

Belly after shed...

This turned out to be a cool picture. If you look closely you can see the camera and my fingers in the picture, and the stick-like structure is top/roof of the pergola we have on our deck.

Wow, that's huge difference in color pre- and post-shed on his belly! It's somewhat surprising to me that an otherwise black snake has an orange belly - I would have expected white.

Most of his lower half (belly) normally seems to be a glossy gray, but no white except for a little on his chin. I believe his dad had a lot of red on the chin, but I don't think mom had red, but just white, on the chin/neck. It will be interesting to see if/how
his color changes as he grows.

Thanks,
Ed

I especially like the last extreme closeup. I didn't realize how much orange your indigo had (seems to have some under the chin as well as on the belly). Sharp lookin' indigo (but you knew that)!

Thanks Renee. His belly color is actually kind of odd. It doesn't look all that orange in person, the camera seems to bring
it out more. Or maybe it depends on the lighting. I'm really not sure.

What's the latest with your blood? Another few weeks?

Thanks,
Ed

I'm dying waiting for her!!! I talked to Jason (the breeder) last week and he said of his 70 or so babies (so far) this year, only 3 or 4 haven't yet eatern and mine is one of them! ("What are the odds?" he asked.) I was one of the first to nab one of his babies, too. I watched them online from the time they were eggs, because I really liked the deep red parents, especially the spectatular Marter sire. I picked the baby with the pattern and color I most loved as soon as he put the pictures up.

Jason says he's had babies take anywhere from 2 days to 2 months to eat. My baby was born about June 22, so she's over a month old now, but he said she looks quite healthy, not skinny, and he's not worried about her. He offered to send her to me without her having eaten (but didn't advise it) and I certainly don't want to get a baby who's not eating yet, so I said I'd wait. Ideally I'd like her to have eaten 2 or 3 times before he ships her to me. So it may well be weeks yet...

Yeah, I readily admit I love taking pics of the snakes' heads. Maybe I am in the lead for the gold medal in that category. (I'm sure my family will be proud of me when I tell them.) Something about the detail and intricacy of the head scalation keeps me snapping away.

I like when Jack is in pre-shed, it adds some variety for sure!

Here's another head shot.
