Just picked up my first pastels..FINALLY

jokerfish Jul 28, 2008 08:41 PM

went to a local show yesterday and picked up a nice 1.1 pair for 125 bucks! Both have fed 3x and shed, and the male took a rat pink this morning and dropped a deuce,so I am happy about that!

My gripe for the show though,is I didnt see much for local hobbiest, mostly guys from out of town. One guy wanted 2400 for a male pinstripe about 400 grams,he must have been on peyote or something.

here is a bad pic of the male

$125 for a pair?!?
No wonder I was having trouble trying to sell my last pastel hatchling. I was asking $125 for just her.
Good thing I decided to keep her.

Geez... I paid $250 last feb. for a female... but I'm like uber-picky...

I'm going to arlington again next year... maybe there will be some nice girls for less than $250... and hopefully i'll have $ then-- because I'm about to die right now-- so much I want to buy- so much I've promised to buy... and I'm waiting around for a check to show up... grrrr...

For what it is worth....you paid a low price for a pair of Pastels, and if you are happy, because you wanted a PAIR, and only had $125 to spend, then cool!

That being said, the low price was probably a reflection of the animal's appearance, they do look like "B" grade Pastels. You would have gotten the response you were looking for, "Damn man, nice pick up for $125," if they would have been spectacular Pastels, but they are not. A low grade female is not the worst thing in the world, because you can breed a stuning Pastel YB or Cinn or any other Co Dom morph to her, and probably produce ok Pastels and decent crosses. That being said, if your goal is to produce saleable Pastels, you REALLY need a stunning male, not your run of the mill male, or less than run of the mill male.

Your pics are not the best, maybe they shed, and you take a better pic, and they look great. As it stands, you paid what you thought they were worth. My opinion, with very low prices as it is, I would only buy animals that were "10"'s as long as I had the money to do so.

congras on the pair of pastel. So you paid 125 for the pair i think thas funny cur people pay $90 for a normal male at the pet store near my house. I'll be looking for a pastel too and an albino on sep show in NY.

$125 for a pair of pastels??? I didn't really look too well, but your pic looked like a normal if I notice correctly. I'm not bein a hater, I'm just callin it how I see it.

I agree, looks like a normal.

if that's a normal, its a darn pretty normal. What does the other one look like?

I spoke with the breeder last night and she said these were graziani line pastels and sent pics of the father. He looked fine, but I personally dont think thats the best line of pastel out there either.I will be getting a pair of Bell lines in a month or so from her when they hatch also.

I like blondes... I have 1.1 graz , 1.0 blonde and 0.1 bell ....
my blond is a little over 800 grams and is still a SCREAMER... the graz's are rather... blah at under 600 grams... I don't have many big plans for them-- will probably put them with pastel YB's or maybe make pastel YB's with them...

anywho... I like blondes... and I like Lemons- but I don't have any of those...
