Hello batlizard,

V. macraei lives on Birds head peninsula, Papua New Guinea, and V. beccari lives on Aru (= Aroe) islands lowland habitat, and one place reported on PNG, Fak-fak. They are basically geographically isolated from one another, so mating in wild would most likely not occur.

Furthermore, hemipenal structures of V. macraei are very dissimilar to hemipenal structures of either V. prasinus and/or V. beccari species (whose hemipene structures are virtually identical except for size), so again, the "Firing System" would most likley not enable the "delivery system" viability/success.

This same ideology goes for other large varanids like V. varius and V. giganteus, whose hemipene structures are quite distinctly different and would most likley not produce viable offspring.

cheers,
mbayless

I would introduce them in a new to both of them, cage. Then you have to leave them work out the rest. I do not see any reason for them not to breed.

I would breed them true, neither are very common. But its understandable, because female bluetrees are very rare. F
