What Cricket Supplier Do You Recommend?

beardielover17 Jul 29, 2008 06:08 PM

I was wondering what cricket suppliers you use and which ones you recommend because I am not happy at all with the quality of the feeders I received this last time. I'm looking for a new one because it seems that all of my dragons that ate from this shipment of crickets and worms seemed to have gotten sick. I know all of my guys were healthy prior to that because everyone had a routine vet check prior to all of this. Temps are reaching 115* on the hot side and I dont use particle substrates. They are all on a strict schedule for baths (every other day) and are supplemented properly. So with everything being right as far as husbandry goes, I'm thinking that the feeders were not in the best shape they could've been in. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I used reptilefood.com for a long time, pretty faithfully, with overall excellent service. If there were ever any problems it was resolved without question in a timely matter.

I would like to hear what others have to say also. Don't forget that for the most part I stopped ordering in quantity 5 years ago! I would like to hear who is the most reliable, and has the best prices(shipping included).

oh i would like other responses as well and i know youve been out of the game for quite some time...ive recently started to post on this forum more because i just find the information less biased and more factual and the people arent a bunch of people who pretend to know everything and what not

When I ordered crickets I did so from Milbrookcrickets.com

They were very fast and the cheapest I could find. I have since switched to roaches. Much cheaper and a lot less smelly.

beardielover17 Jul 29, 2008 08:36 PM

if i wasnt so terrified of roaches, i wouldve made the switch 2 dragons ago but god forbid one of those get out...ill never sleep in my house again lol i wish silkies were as easy to come by as all the other feeders out there...if they werent so difficult to breed and have a self sustaining colony id b breeding those like wildfire

I use reptilefood.com as well and very rarely have problems with them and those that do occur are fixed promptly without question. If I report 500 dead they replace them with 1000 without my asking. I do have problems occasionally with the delivery guys but they can't really help that and yet still they do everything they can to fix it. I usually order 10'000 every other week and it breaks down to about .014 each shipping included.

i use coldbloods.com 8.50 per thousand and very trustworthy.

id actually like to know who you used that was so bad, that way me and everyone else on here can know not to use them.

i use lobster roaches as feeders. they are not your every day house roach and look nothing like it either. i know you said you were scared of roaches but if you saw them, they kinda look like a cricket bred with a roach. not too big either, 1-1 1/2 inches full grown. fast and easy to breed as well.

i dont want to go and bad mouth a company just in case it was just a one time deal but in my personal opinion im going to choose to not buy from southerncrickets.com a frend of mine told me about them and said i shud try them...honestly id rather give my arm and leg to buy em from premium crickets before i bought from them again

I don't know about price, but I buy from Lucky Lure and Armstrong's Crickets. I know the folks at Armstrong's (a bit) and have toured their facility. Top quality, good folks, take their business seriously. I'll pay a few more bucks to know I have good feeders. I also like to order from Lucky Lure because they are close to me so shipping is quick.

Funny. I've used that supplier for years and used to love them. In the last year or so I have had nothing but problems also and have replaced them as my primary source. I'm still searching for the best supplier.

jeffk Jul 30, 2008 11:07 AM

let me put it this way. i spend $24.00 on 2,000 shipped. it is by far the best i have ever found. shipping is like 9 dollars. i live in florida and i have him ship them second day but they always arive next day. they are always alive and i never have any die. i keep them in a 10 gallon tank and i have never had one die. And i mean that not a single one has died before. give him a call and try him out 1(781)679-0663. tell him jeff kearney sent ya.

As a side note, I always put my crickets on medicated chick feed to help clean up the coccidia.

Take care,
Karen
