A strange thing happened....

the4thmonkey Jul 30, 2008 10:04 AM

The story starts out about a man and his dog. Living near the outskirts of town, it was his habit to walk the dog in the boonies and let him run free. The man always carried a bag and picked up trash as he watched his dog. Yesterday morning, the man and his faithful companion went on their usual daily journey. They were a good ways from home when a truck came suddenly over a hill and the man could only watch as his dog was crushed under it's tires. The driver of the truck stopped, the man picked up his dog and they rushed to the veterinary clinic.

The man had also picked up the bag of garbage he had been collecting. He didn't realize that he was still carrying it, and dropped the bag in the waiting room as he ran for the exam room with his little buddy in his arms. The dog, unfortunately, could not be helped. A family member came to pick up the man and the dead dog, and in all the confusion, the bag of trash was left sitting in the waiting room for a few minutes. When the veterinarian's assistant went to pick up the bag she saw movement inside. A collared lizard had somehow made his way into the bag, or had been in some trash that the man picked up. The assistant was able to catch him, and the veterinarian, a very kind man who knows I keep collareds, brought the lizard to me.

He is a young-looking adult male who is seemingly in good health. Unfortunately I cannot keep this pretty boy as I don't have room for another male. My spare tanks are full of hatchlings right now. So he is being temporarily housed until I can take him back to the general area he came from and release him. I thought you might enjoy the story and a photo.

It would be awesome if someone wanted to adopt him, but there would be the shipping costs involved. We can set him free in the general area where he was inadvertantly captured, but whether or not he finds his old territory is a gamble. He could possibly find a new one, but might run into competition from other males who have already staked out a place.

I sent you a pm.

To Eve, who has adopted the garbage bag stowaway. And also to Rosebuds, who wanted to adopt him, but instead has adopted a juvie male that I had been eyeing at the local pet shop. He'd been there too long to be released and really needed a good home.

I imagine their new mommies will be introducing them to you very soon. Thanks so very much for your generosity!
