Dennis-

Ivan has a big group of breeders, he might have some ready but I think there is a waiting list. I saw an add for an Ambilobe from Rock N Reptiles/Captive Panthers, you may try them. I have close to 50+ eggs now and more on the way, no babies till next year. They are out there, but are few and far apart for true Ambilobes. They also demand a pretty penny! I know you were looking at the Sambava's, I took a new pic of my guy, thought I would share. What do you think!

very nice john! what are the differences between to the ambilobes and sambava? their locales have got to be close as they look pretty similar. although i am think the colors on the sambava(at least the one you have pictured)are closer to what i am looking for, more orange than red. are you breed your sambava?

ambilobes go for more then the other similar panthers? more then $250 to 300?

Dennis-

The Sambava and Ambilobe locales are not really close to each other if you look on a map. I would say they are pretty well divided with mountains. The Sambava locale is on the NE costal side of Madagascar, and the Ambilobe is on the NW costal/Inland area of Madagascar, and in between the two are mountains. I have never been to Madagascar, but would love to go, so I can only go by what's on the map and it is not to detailed. The males are quite different and vary with in each locale. All the true Ambilobes I have seen have a blue pattern in the bars. Some will have lots some will have small amounts. The Sambava will not have any blue. Also when fired up Ambilobes will have more red/yellow and Sambavas will have more Orange/Yellow/Green. Also the eye turret on the Ambilobe will be Red and the Sambavas are Orange. There might be more technical differences, since I am not studying them in the field I don't have access to the this kind of info. I will be breeding my Sambavas soon. YES Ambilobes demand a higher price then other locales, supply and demand. Age will determine price, but expect to pay $300 for a young chameleon, and $600 for sub-adult to adult. Hope this helps!

Hi Dennis,

Yes... breeders have Ambilobes. More than you realize, too.
This pardalis morph is so "newly imported" that many breeders are just now expecting their CB eggs to hatch (we know of 5 such breeders). We know one breeder/friend that has 10 week old hatchlings, and several more clutches incubating. Some breeders might be holding back their hatchlings to see what they will look like at 5-6 months.

When you get ready to buy one, I am sure you can find them. In the next few months you should see many being offered.
