Question on Super Ghosts

tcdrover Jul 31, 2008 10:11 AM

I have a nice male possible Super Ghost, that I'm thinking of
breeding this season. I'm thinking of who to pair him up with.
I'm curious why they get called Super Ghosts. They really are
anery, Super Hypo's right?

If bred to a non-anery boa that isn't het for anery, the
babies wouldn't be ghosts, or would they?
They'd be 100% het for anery, but it wouldn't be visual or does this work differently?

Super is another way of saying "Dominant". WHen you breed Hypo to Hypo, wheater it be DH Ghost to Ghost...DH ghost to DH Ghost ect. About half to litter should be "Super" Dominant Hypos / Ghosts or what have you. You can only get a "Super" is it's a hypo to hypo breeding, not a normal to hypo breeding, if it the animals "is" extremley clean.

I good factor of telling (but not 100%) is seeing how "Clean" your animals is. Checking out the tail....seeing a much more obviously lacking of Black ect.

Hope this was helpful.... nice male nontheless!

When you breed two hypos together that are in the heterozygous state you will get.

25% Super Hypos
50% Hypos
25% Normals

When you breed a Super Hypo to a Hypo you will then get!

50% Super Hypos
50% Hypos

In the case of your Possible Super Ghost its more of an industry name of describing a Hypo that has the possibility of being a Super Hypo and also shows the homozygous condtion of being Anerythristic. If you breed your Super Ghost to a normal and all the babies are hypo then you have proven that he is indeed a Super Hypo. All the babies would also be 100% Heterozygous for Anery as well.

Hope this helps!

it worked but I wasn't sure. Semantics can be tricky...

You DO have a really nice male there!
Yes, the super means that the animal has a “double dose” of hypo, but you can’t know for sure until you breed him.
If you breed him to a normal and he’s a super, all of the babies will be dh ghosts (hypos 100% het anery)
If he’s not a super, half the babies will be 100% het anery (normal looking) and the other half will be dh ghost (hypos 100% het anery).
Either way, that’s a fantastic looking ghost.
Hope that helps!
