Steeve,
Is there any mention of Candoia species?
Scott
Scott I dont have the list yet, the species I posted my friend thold me on the phone this morning. I will see the list next week.
I wonder if the prasinus complex and/or indicus complex will be put on the list as well.

Are you saying that there will not be any more wc water monitors available?
That would be a good thing, imo. Most people can't care properly for savs let alone a water monitor. And you can find waters as low as $75 which makes them still affordable for the average shmo.
-Shane
yes Mike no more salvators! finish
few years from now cb salvators will be quite expensive!!
I for one am really happy about this.
I agree with you 100%
now keepers will start caring for them.

I would be too if I was not suspicious of this being a ploy to hike up the prices on wc imports from indo.
it's not a ploy as salvadorii is not on the list.
they targeted many turtles, frogs, lizards, snakes but seem to have left the lower quota animals available for export?
eventualy all monitors will be prohibited!?
Please forgive me, maybe I'm a bit naieve, but wouldn't a ban on these exports require a collective effort amongst all of the Indo countries from which these animals originate? I seriously have trouble believing it.
Besides, if it is true, I'll bet the government officials who regulate these types of things in those countries are chomping at the bit waiting to line their pockets with kickbacks for allowint them out. I hear tell they make American politicians look like saints.
Its not actually about what indo will do, its about what the USFW will do. They can confiscate any shipment in violation of the lacy act.
So it does not matter what they ship out, it will be about what is allowed in. Cheers
That makes more sense to me.
However I'm still curious about how multiple countries could come together and impose such a ban. I mean, how many countries do the species mentioned come from?
It's wonderful how governments continually create more avenues for illegal activity.
Doesnt change anything really.
The regualtions from what I am hearing are for WC monitors.
All the baby waters, etc come in with RACNHED paperwork. No one buys wc adults anyways, the only thing I see as positive in it is that no WC SKINS will be exported thus squashing that market
please be as specific as possible... Someone else brought up the fact that there are many of these animals raised on farms there and when I look closer I realize that you did say they will sieze export but did not say of WC. Does this mean that the farms won't be able export either? That would seem like an economically bad decision.
sorry I dont know exactly yet, from my conversation its all salvators regardless of origing cb, ch, cbb, wc.
I amagine this will hold true to all species envolved?
but as I said, I dont know enough yet.
was hopping other importers cauld clear it up!
Jobi,
I am very interested who your source is? I can not find any anouncements made by CITES or the Indonesian Forestry Department.
There is no indication that the Indonesian government will ban all export of these key reptile species. If a ban would really be a fact most exporters would export all their remaining quota (because this would mean their last way to make a income from the quota they received earlier this year). And for lower prices! Furthermore the skin industry will be affected as well if there would be no more export of e.g. Python reticulatus! And if it would be true most "green activists" GreenPeace, WWF and all those other enviromental agencies would be announcing this!
This would mean other countries in the region (Malaysia, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodja or Thailand) would take over the skintrade/reptile trade!) And so far there is no evidence that there is a increase in the export of these countries.
And I do not think that Indonesia would not give up this economic source so easily! Just to "protect" it's nature!
I can not upload the list of reptiles that have been imported and export from the Republic of Indonesia. On this list which has been released at the end of Juli there is no mention of termination of the remainder of the export/catching quota. Or a change in the quota system! This list is published by the Departemen Kehutanan Republik Indonesia (Indonesian Forestry Department) on a monthly basis.
So again I would like to know how you heard about these new regulations. If it is from a exporter within Indonesia it could also be that he has finished his export quota or his catching quota and has to wait for next year or has to buy from his compettitors. Or he is just saying it to get a bigger order!
Because I can not upload the original list I will mention the species of concern here.

On the list only the species that originate from the wild are mentioned, this because both CITES & NON-CITES animals have quota's. Farm-bred or ranched animals are not included in the list.
As I said before there are no notifications via CITES made to member parties and nothing is mentioned on the website of the Indonesian Forestry Department.
Please I could be wrong but untill I see real evidence like a notification to the parties of CITES or a notification signed by the Forestry Department I am not convinced such a remarkeble change in the export regulattions is a fact.
For those who want the export/import list let me know.
For more information please go to:

sorry for late reply
I will have the notification next week and will send it to you.
until then this is all I know.
