How big are your adult females???

chris allen Jul 31, 2008 06:13 PM

This was brought up to me, that a normal size for females is 16" nowadays, and by looking these females in question couldn't have been more than 200 or 250 grams. It was also stated that 19" dragons are "big". Just wondering if this is true that dragons have been getting smaller? I remember having only 1 female that was close to that length, but she was still about 350 grams. Any thoughts?

My girl is about 19" inches long. Not sure on the weight as I haven't measured her lately and don't think she will appreciate me picking her up half way through her sleep. I also don't have a good scale... From her robust build I expect she is at least 300g if not more. Nice fat tail base and gentle roundness to fat deposits on the head and limbs. Wide bodied when at rest as well.

Personally most of the time I like smaller dragons. They "usually" breed better. But all 5 females and 1 male I have right now are over 400 grams but one is only 350 at 6 months of age. I just bought here and got her shipped in yesterday.

I think dragons are running smaller. I know when breeding dogs if you line breed the dogs are smaller and if you outcross the dogs have more size. I suspect many of our lines have been bred back. I've also noticed that most of my big girls (19 inches) don't breed their first year. Nor do my large males. It usually takes them to the second year to fully develop. Just my two cents.
Take care,
Karen
