Water dishes/bowls...do you use them?

beardielover17 Jul 31, 2008 06:57 PM

I know this is a somewhat debated topic as well. I want to hear others views on it. Personally I've used water bowls/dishes for years and have never had a problem and have seen every single one of my dragons use them. I do bathe my dragons 3-4 times a week as well to aid in hydration. At least twice a day I will empty the dish out and scrub it out with hot water and a clean toothbrush to make sure it didnt get slimy. I find it good to keep a somewhat shallow dish in the enclosure because just in case I get tied up during the week and miss bath time, they have a source of clean fresh water daily. My humidity levels are ideal as well even with the water dish in there as well, so what are others thoughts, opinions, or experiences?

You are correct about leaving the water bowls in the cages. Despite what some people say, I do believe desert animals can learn to exploit water when it is available. They are very good at it. The dragon may not know how to use it at first, but eventually, very quickly, they will learn to exploit the source. That's what desert animals do, and they do it pretty well.

in my own opinion i think that providing a fresh, clean source of water at all times is very good...my baby translucent loves drinking from the dish more than he loves his baths...along with the water and baths everyone gets very well gutloaded crickets and silkworms (wen the UDSA isnt being **** about importing them over to the US) so i can safely say my dragons are always well hydrated

Every morning I put a water dish in each enclosure. Every night I take them out and run them through the dishwasher.
