rescued- need help

sgraff Jul 31, 2008 08:23 PM

I recently was given a female normal about 800g that was found in a park. She has eaten and appears in good condition with the exception of her skin. When I first got her it seemed like something had chewed on her. It was not bleeding but her skin on the sides was damaged. She is now in shead and her skin looks a lot worse. Now there are some areas that appear blistered and have broken blood vessels under the damaged skin. Someone had suggested that it might be a large burn. Its possible I guess but it is on her sides mostly which is an extremly odd place for a burn. Is there anything I can do for this type of injury until I can have a vet look at it? Thanks

keep it as clean as possible. If the areas are not huge, some topical anti-bacteral cream can be used. Keep her in a simple setup (paper towels, hides and water, thats it)with all the appropriate hot spot.

Bring her to a vet as soon as you can. If the injuries are bad enough, she may need antibiotics injected into her.

I agree with the previous post. Keep it clean. I might suggest a bath in warm water with enough betadine in the water to tint it slightly. Soak for five minutes or so while you watch. Then rinse him well.
I rescued one once that had been sprayed with flea spray. it ate through its outer layers of skin leaving raw skin on its back and sides. It's skin was extremely dry and crusty feeling but was much better after the first shed. It had lost alot of its scales and the white skin underneath was spotted with blood vessel specks. It survived all of this and although it still has some scaring it looks better every shed. Feel free to email me if you need more help. Good luck with it.

I put the neosporin on it and can take her to the vet tuesday, thats when he is in. I have never seen this, and the strangest part is that it is only on her side. I just hope she is not in a lot of pain.
