Need help with basking spot

eppon Sep 03, 2003 09:07 PM

I'm trying to get the temperature up on the basking spot... thankfully, I don't have the dragon yet because I'm having some problems

I had my digital indoor/outdoor thermometer just laying on the bottom of my glass tank. The lamp I was using is a 160 watt powersun bulb. I got the temps up to 104.

So I got a piece of cork bark to raise the basking spot (about 14" from the powersun) and added a 60 watt regular house bulb. So now I have 2 bulbs facing the probe, but the temps are only hitting 94 degrees!

Is it that cork bark is a bad heat conductor? What should I use as a basking spot?

Use river rock from our gulf and disinfected it with diluted bleach and cooked in over for half hour and then made a basking spot out of that...I am only using a 75W bulb and my temp gets up to 112 degrees...the rock holds the heat nicely!!!!!!!

buttfly catfishes that I like to watch when I am relaxing....The waterfall sound of the filter running after a busy day at work is enough to put me to sleep!

Try using logs or rocks as basking spots. I don't think cork bark is very good at holding heat. Also, are you sure that your thermometer is working right?
