Escaped Snake...

oc-balls Aug 01, 2008 11:03 AM

One of my girls escaped from her Freedom Breeder rack yesterday. I was lucky enough to find her wedged underneath one of the trays. She somehow pushed her tray out (and it wasn't an inch or two - she pushed it out a good eight inches). Has anyone experienced this, and are there any ideas on how to prevent this in the future.

I've seen locking bars on some racks, but what about a quick fix?

I hope this doesn't become a habit!!!

Had this happen to me just the other day in my Vision Product CB70 rack. Had a girl, about 2500g, push her way out. She also pushed her drawer out 6-8 inches. Luckly found her on the floor just beside the rack. The VP has little holes to drop stoppers in to keep the drawers secure. Not sure how to secure the FB racks on a quick fix. I have a medium FB rack myself and haven't had any escapes from it yet. This makes me want to fix a secure pole on mine now!

I had a girl get out a few days ago... got into the rat tank while she was out too.... very interesting experience to find her full of 4 rats... guess she didn't want to wait 2 more hours till I was done with my dinner....

I have her duct-taped in... ghetto but it works...

I have one other tub that fits a little too loose- and i just have cardboard folded up and wedged under the front of the tub...

Well, se got out again today. I was lucky, and found her this time as well.
She's locked in with duct tape, until I can find a more permanent fix.

Maybe she's a new morph - the Escape Ball

I have the vision rack and I had 10 fresh babies get out while I was on vacation once. Had a snake sitter who didnt' push the cages all the way to the back so they were able to push out.

I now use a bolt in the hole that is front of the tubs. didn't know the holes were there till after the great escape. I found all babies but it took some work.

I would be careful with the duct tape if by some chance the snake can push out again it will get in the tape. Getting tape off a snake is no fun I learned that the hard way when I first started with snakes many years ago.

can you drill a hole in the rack so you can use a bolt or nail to keep the tubs secure?
