legal or not?

cid143ti Aug 01, 2008 11:07 AM

Is it legal for a minor in Texas to catch a wild, red ear slider and smash it with a baseball bat? The reason I'm asking is that I recently noticed a neighbor's child doing that. Of coarse I stopped him. I'm not looking for right or wrong but legal or illegal.

As a wildlife regulation, I doubt it, but it probably falls under animal cruelty laws. Check your state, county, and city animal regulations for the definition of an "animal". Some include reptiles, some don't.

If that occurred on a texas right of way...it sounds like a possible life sentence. If it occurred on private land, he only gets three swings. Then he must properly tag the mangled turtle and immediately deliver it to the nearest Asian food market exporter for proper disposal.
