OT day 54....

FRoberts Aug 01, 2008 12:22 PM

well the two that pipped are out of the eggs and most other eggs are pipped but one, have seen most of the snakes in the egg but am not 100 percent sure if they are not pied's, look pretty normal to me, perhaps some low whites who knows.

Here are the first two out of eggs...they are proven hets now for sure...

....Look$ like thing$ are working out well on that clutch. Congratulation$!!! Now you have to worry about should you or should you not manually pip that last egg.

I manually pipped 3 eggs panicked on one, thought I cut too many vessels and removed snake and then put him back in his egg with the cord attached to the yolk, had like 2 days more to go, I am not touching any more snake eggs no more, makes me a nervous wreck and then I feel guilty like I may have just killed him, I just did this with a rat snake and he made it so it may live. I feel like an ass when I do stuff like that and I panicked, I now realize after thinking about it that I didn't even cut too many vessels.

I no longer will interfere with natures course, I may change it in the wrong direction because I read too much information.

Now the snake is sitting in the egg alive hopefully absorbing it's yolk like the rat snake did. I wanted to remove it, tie it with dental floss and ligate but changed my mind.

I just removed him to consider ligation. The stalk entering the stomach is too thick IMO and all the vein network are intact. So I washed out egg with hot water and put snake back in egg with yolk below him and added water to egg to keep yolk and stalk hydrated/saturated. I will keep adding water so he/she can properly finish adsorbing what remains. If the stalk where smaller I would have ligated. If the yolk remains wet the snake should absorb the rest and be ok. My female macklot's python was dipping her head in her water bowl and gave me the idea . (smiles). Ya I was talking to her!!!

I hope he makes it.

the last egg and killed the snake in the process. I give up!!!

how he die?

I know, actual it sickens me that I knew before hand...

as I killed him it came to me ...one word...exsanguination...I should have known better, textbook error!!!

I try to read and educate myself so I do not make the same mistakes I have read about and would have liked to believe I learned something so I do not repeat the errors of others.

I feel sick.

I should have stuck to my gut and not interfered!!!

I WILL NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE AGAIN!!! Two bad calls in one day

Frank,
Sorry that it died. That sucks. I also pipped one of the remaining two kingsnake eggs and found a perfectly formed little snake in there with alot of yolk left. I lightly touched it and saw it respond so I'm leaving it alone. I poured some of the fluid out to see the snake and am now wondering if that could be detrimental. Interesting that you added water, I actually thought of that but hesitated to do so. There is still fluid covering everything so I'll leave well enough alone. Thanks for sharing this information and beautiful little pieds (and I really don't care too much for balls).

Very impressive color and pattern! (I can see why Jeff put all those dollar signs in his post...)

Congrats Frank! Beautiful little babies. You've gotta be a pretty excited guy right now. It's always a relief when hets prove to be hets beyond a doubt.
My own soon to hatch eggs are dimpling and softening quite a bit as of last nights inspection and have lost about 30 grams since last week, so hatching oughta be soon. Today is day 52 I believe. So maybe over the weekend if they follow my other clutches schedule.
