het pied markings and pic

irishanaconda Aug 01, 2008 11:10 PM

so i recently bought a 66% het pied female and she has what people call "het pied markings" on one side but not the other. i talked to a couple people who all say that it hasnt been proven but if she has the markings and she was from a het to het breeding that its about 90% accurate then, but what do all of u think? she is from a pinstripe het for pied to a het for pied here is the pic

the whole het marker for pied was just a gimmic in my opinion to sell excess hets. from my understanding there is no visual recessive hets period.

i have a 100% het albino that has perfect het pied markers, but has nothing to do with any pied at all. i also have a sib spider that has the so called marker.

it's just another way to sell hets.

the only way to truely find out is to breed it.

I wouldn't say there's nothing to it. I would say it is def not 100%, That said, all of my babies produced from pied to normal or pied to het carry the markers, for whatever thats worth.

Sorry to say but that's not a really great marker. Ideally all three belly scales should be white in-between the dark. That dark is just barely outside the middle white scale and near the top of the pic not even that.

But as someone posted below, it isn't 100% and it does vary in quality. Some non hets have it and some hets don't. But it tends to run much more common in het pieds. Here are some 25% chance het pieds I'm hopeful about proving.

It actually greatly complicates selling possible hets because everyone only wants the ones with the markers now that the info eventually got out.

thanks for all of your advice. just the chance of her being possible for het pied and with a weight of 980 grams, she was well worth the 300$$ i spent on her.

i wish you the best of luck proving her out!
