Proper Lighting.

madisonrecords Aug 02, 2008 02:12 PM

Here are some fairly nice shots of an adult Suriname Male.

I tell you what, I messed around with Photoshop for a couple of months, thinking I could use it as a substitude for bad picture taking and I will not touch it again, except for a little sharpening to correct slight blurring and for labeling.

There is no substitute, for learning how to use a camera and correct lighting too represent a Boa as honestly as possible.

I want people to see my Boas or buy the ones I sell and know that they look even better in person.

I am not the best picture taker in the world, but none of my friends and customers have complained about anything being misrepresented.

I use to think that Photoshop, in the right hands could only benefit pictures, but after receiving Boas in the past that look nothing in color, in person, like they did in the picture " I am having second thoughts about it being good in any hands? "

It is amazing what a " tad more or less saturation, contrast, tint, temperature ect.ect.ect.ect., can do to bring out the best in the Boa that is pictured, but how come so many do not look quite the same in person, Hmmm? "

I understand now, why a few people on the forum were giving me heck about using it, but I tried to make them understand that I was just playing around with it, to see what it did and I seen and I do not like it after just fooling around with it.

It sounds that there are more than a few people that have been burned by Photoshoped Pictures and maybe those that use it, need to stop, even though I am sure they would come on here and type up a bunch of spiritually inspired words on how they know the proper usages of it. LOL

Good pictures come with patience and taking a whole lot of them before you find that one or two, that you know in your heart, represents the Boa as honestly as you can possibly represent it.

When you finally get that " one good shot, " it will be better than anything ran through Photoshop anyway, because it is showing the Boa for it's true beauty.

I hope to get better at taking pictures " I enjoy it, " but you just have to keep on snapping and these pictures represent this male at least 98% and only sharpened them slightly to remove some slight blurring.

Thanks, for letting me ramble and I will not look for any tea party invitations this week! LOL

You make some great points there I believe its used quite widely. Instead of good Photography or even average Photography to display a Boas qualities.
Of topic here John that last photo on the stump. The 5 leaf vine plant growing on that stump. That's not poisen ivy is it ?
Thanks John,

John all the pic's I take indoors never turn out the way I like them. Proper light is the way and you can't beat Mother natures light bulb!! I am starting to enjoy taking Pic's now that I am understanding a little more about it, but I have a long way to go!
What kind of camera do you use? and what settings do you typically shoot in Macro or what? Love the pattern on him and great pink sides.

Brother, I just keep it on Macro at all times and use a Sony ciber shot 6 megapixel " all that's needed. "

I am also trying to practice putting my finger half way across the flash bulb and moving it a little at a time, for those flash pictures that seem to be hard to work with.

I am starting to get ta slight hang of it, but still working on it........JJ

john, look in your camera's manual there should be a way to adjust the flash output.

The vine is Virginia Creeper and not irritating to the skin. Thanks for the post! You have some very good points. I think using Photo Shop to "enhance" the boa in a way that misrepresents its true color is fraud. It is very easy to do just by increasing density of color - even in small increments it will make a difference. I think folks should be aware of those who use it or any other photo enhancing program or camera, maybe on BOI. If the pics significantly different than the actual animal in person then something was changed. I know there are types of lighting that need to be taken into account; fluorescent, incandescent, etc. But some of it is just plain obvious and needs to be posted. Thanks for letting me rant. It's a pet peeve.
