Heating Melamine

stormwulf133 Aug 02, 2008 11:05 PM

I am building a 2' x 16" cage to fit on top of a rack system. The cage will be built out of my leftover melamine. I have everything except the plexiglass from leftovers. I am trying to figure out how to heat it via heat tape for a corn snake. I have a 2ft long piece of 4" flexwatt. Would I just use silicone to tack down bare heat tape in the cage (with thermostat or dimmer of course) or would I put a piece of plexiglass over the heat tape? (but the wires would make it stick up on one end right? and I couldnt make sure the tape was running at no more than 95 degrees. I am kinda confused as to what to do.

I have never done it but I have heard people talking about you attach the heat tape to a piece of expanded pvc and sandwich it between the melamine and pvc or to allow air some people cut a whole in bottom of cage to fit heat tape and do the same thing with the pvc...

I would use a strip or plexi glass or something else.

If you use silicon it may continue to produce an odor as the heat tape will get hot.
