brumation (cooling) ideas???

geckoejon Aug 03, 2008 11:54 AM

hello,
i am looking for some ideas on how to make a small cooler for 3-4 pair of snakes. since i moved to florida, i am working with only 1 room for my critters. i also have some babies i am raising so i don't want to cool the whole room.
i once heard that someone used a refridgerater on a thermostat. they said they would open it every couple days for air circulation. anyone ever tried this, or have any good ideas.
thanks.....

I would think most normal refrigerators would run too cold without modification. I've heard of some breeders using wine cooler units with success.

yes, i agree that they would have to be modified. even then i think i would be nervous about leaving my snakes in there just because they are made to go much cooler than needed for brumation.
you are the second person i've heard refer to the wine cooler. i will do some more checking into that possibility. thanks....
