I have my very first brown anole problem.

I found my female in the waterfall (it was not filled or on at the time thank god) on her back, appearing dead at first. I picked her up and she moved a bit but did not jump, run or flinch which was very odd too, since she is always very active and people shy.

She is visably gravid, and so weak she can't move much except to open her eyes. I gave her some hydrolife which she took with no problem....in fact after the first attempt she was looking for more. I put her in a seperate spare ten gallon on a basking ledge with some uv and heat and sprayed the cage. She seems a tiny bit better...but what is wrong? And is there anything else I can do?

Thanks for any advice

Nicole

Hi Nicole,
I am by no means an expert, but I think a little more information might be needed for someone to give you more advice. Is your anole a long term captive, or recently acquired? I'm trying to get an idea on her age. What temps. do you normally keep the display cage at-basking and nightime? What is she fed? Could she have eaten something that didn't digest properly? Does she have cagemates and have you observed any aggression among them? You say she is gravid, I hope the egg(s) are not impacted (if that is even possible in anoles) because then I'd fear the worse. I think you are on the right track by putting her in a quarantine terrarium. I don't know if I'd raise temps. to 100f but I would definitely keep her warm, provide plenty of opportunities to drink and whatever food she will take. Hope everything works out o.k.

Just in case you're wondering, I keep Knight Anoles and there are some pics of mine in the photo gallery.
