Sick Babies....HELP!

BoaBud Aug 03, 2008 02:31 PM

I have Six 4 week old baby beardies. I have them housed in two different tanks with proper temps and lighting.

This is our first attempt at breeding our pair.

All of the animals in one tank are thriving and the three babies in the other tank have fits? They have trouble controlling their limbs and they shake slightly really weird.

We plan on a trip to the Dr. with them tomorrow, however in the mean time has anybody seen anything like this before? Any advice or comments will be much appreciated.

Regards
Buddy and Cheryl Young

Sounds like the tank with sick dragons is not properly set up. Either the UVB bulb is too old or too far away. Twitching and 'fits' usually indicate MBD or other nutrient deficiency in baby dragons..or some other factor (too hot maybe?)

I suggest double checking temps etc. More details on what the actual temperatures are, how old the UVB bulb is, what kind, how far away from the basking spot, what you are feeding, how much they eat, are you dusting the insects regularly, how often and how long each feeding is, substrate etc.

You said something about too hot. Would the babies bask if it was too hot or would they just run away after a minute or 2? Thanks

if too hot and they don't have anywhere to go to cool off, they can over heat and suffer heat stroke and other heat related problems.

Babies grow fast and need lots of calcium and UVB. What are you providing? Every live meal should be dusted with calcium with D3. NO PHOSPHORUS. RepCal is best.
