fatten female??

Pudgsr Aug 03, 2008 02:53 PM

One my females that is laying eggs will lay one or two at a time and her tail becomes thin. I try to fatten her up with a live or frozen pinkie and sometimes she will take it and sometimes not. I have tried wax worms and she seems to be like those at times too. The male has been out of the cage for 4 weeks now. She lays a couple of eggs and then i see more eggs already forming. Not sure what to do? She is a first time breeder and im a first time breeder too.

make sure that you are offering her pure calcium in a small dish within her habitat 24/7, as well as dusting her food with vitamins 2-3 times a week. There are mixed opinions on whether or not to feed calcium with D3 or not, but I normally will dust my crickets/mealworms 3 times a week with D3 and 3 without in an alternating fashion. This way I feel works because my Leos can digest their food better because of the D3, but it is in lower quantities(in case studies eventually show its harmful).
Also pinkies and waxworms can help, but make sure you only feed those occasionally.
Hope this helps

How thin is it getting? Maybe post a pic. She only needed to breed once to lay eggs for the entire season. If it is quite thin I would offer her a couple pinkies twice a week maybe on Mondays and Fridays to help keep her body weight up, keep a dish of mealies in her tank, and maybe some wax worms once a week. It was good that you removed the male so she don't get stressed and has no compitition for the food. GL

i will try to get pics up. See has mealies in their at all times. I have tried pinkies the past week with no luck for either of my two laying females. Sometimes they will eat the pinkies but the past week i have no luck. I will try to post pics and keep updated.
