Average egg size?

teaspoon Aug 03, 2008 06:30 PM

i just got my first clutch, five eggs, and had no idea that they'd be so big! How big are the eggs normally? I don't have a scale, but mine are all between 3 and 3.5 inches long and about 1.75 inches wide. Also, will the eggs grow at all as they develope? I ask because I noticed that cresetd gecko eggs nearly double in width as they develope.

Congrats & good luck. I have my very first clutch of ball python eggs due to hatch in about a week. I will say this much from my first experience, they did not grow throughout the process, but they are almost obsurdly large from day one. Mine are probably at least 4" to 4.5" long & 2" wide. I know you said that you don't have a scale, but our 4 egg clutch weighed 389g.

The size can vary a lot. I have had good eggs that were 40g all the way up to 130g.
