Rack Tub Sizes

bakeaway Aug 03, 2008 06:35 PM

I am sure this has been asked before. But what size of tubs do you use for adult kings in your rack systems. Mine are between 3-6ft. I am going to get a new rack and just wanted some input.

Thanks

32 qt. is pretty standard, but I think they're a little cramped for an adult, especially for breeding. I'm going to get something bigger for my adults, either 41 qt. or some cages.

Definitely go bigger than 32qt if you can. I wish I had.

Yeah I agree with Funky Res. A 32 qt. tub is great for adolescent colubrids, and for geckos also, but for a fully grown kingsnake, it's just not enough room. I'd really like my adults to be able to stretch out. I think they'll be much happier if they're not cramped during breeding too.

Several rack companies do make them for larger tubs. Some of the racks made for boas would be great for adult kings I bet. I'm either gonna do that or get some nice roomy cages for my adults.

thanks for the info,,,i have them in 32 qt now,,i am going to move up to the 41qt. it seems to have the largest floor area. since i really do not need that musch height for kings.

If you have the bucks,ARS and Freedom breeder have the 26" x 33" tubs with the plastic windows in front and even bigger if you want. Less e3xpensive is the nice black plastic racks from animal plastics. They have the CB 70 17"x33" or CB110 18"x36". Always nicer to be able to put them in something bigger like a Vision if possible but I guess it's not as easy to do space.time and money wise for everyone. I think a lot of folks here would like to go bigger if they had it to do all over.

Good luck,
Bob.

The ARS racks look very nice indeed. They have a boa rack that has 52" x 33.5" tubs even. Not cheap though. Vision has a nice looking boa rack with 44" tubs for about half as much. I may look into that. I'm also looking at Vision cages. They have a 72" long cage that's pretty affordable. 6' would give my Albino Tangerine Honduran plenty of room. She's my biggest snake, and is looking kinda cramped in that 32 qt. tub right now.

Yeah. But while the initial price seems kind of high you are getting something you'll probably be using for years in one way or another. ARS also is offering a rack using the large vision tub 31"x 39" Too.
I have the AP CB110 rack and like it. The nice thing though about the larger ARS/Freedom Breeder tubs though is that they are large like a Vision or Showcase cage where you could "lanndscape" them a bit and feel good about a "cage size" enclosure yet they have the convienience of cleaning/maintenance of a rack. Also if you are only keeping a few levels occuppied you can unplug the rest and not waste all the electricity heating the whole rack like I do with the AP rack.

I've noticed that when people Downsize their collections because they get overwhelmed theres usually a lack of orginization, cages, boxes, tubs everywhere. Sort of out of control.

You could go for the ARS #9506 which uses the big Vision tub 31"x39" which has almost the square inch floor space of a 4' Vision or ARS #8018. Except for the base frame/wheels each level is only around $300.00 a level on both models and you can get them only a level at a time. I'm hoping to check them out myself at Daytona.
Bob.

The ARS 9006 looks good too. You can mix and match several tub sizes, so different levels of the same rack can have various tub combos. Very cool.
