I have about a 2.5 foot savannah who was a rescue and came to me a little over 6 months ago with scars and all from previous owner. He formed a hard little plate of skin on his upper part, like between his front legs that looked like a bad shed piece of skin about a 3 weeks ago. I have been keeping an eye on him hoping he would shed it and all it didnt seem to be bothering him. Tonight I looked at it and I noticed it was coming off but under it is a wound. It looks almost like when you have a scab and go swimming and come out of the pool that mushy look lol sorry for my discription but I dont know how else to explain it. Any ideas what happened and any suggestions on things to do or just keep his cage and water clean and keep an eye on it?

Has it been to the vet yet? I would go ASAP. THey will probably give you some Silvadene cream to help with the healing.

I plan on it the other problem is that the skin hasnt fallen off yet?

Given the location & the description it could be anything from an abscess to rodent bite wounds, burn from bursted lightbulb and a host of other things, but there's too many unanswered questions to be sure. A photo would help.

You said it had scars - are there other scars in the same area that could give any indication as to their type?

You can use dilluted peroxide or dilluted original Listerene to clean the wound & kill bacteria. Doing so once or twice a day for a few days in a row should help heal the wound just fine.

Thanx for the post. The other scars are from burns from light fixture previous owner had him in to small of cage and kept pushing his back against the light. The reptile vets around me I called have been pretty booked. I have to go pick up some rodents tommarow and the guy at the reptile shop (where I get most of my reptiles) also said if I brought him in he would take a look at it so we will see I hope my big guy will be ok ill keep you updated....

I have found out that it is a burn on my savys back now I have to figure out how and treat it with some creams thanx for the responses...
