My BT STINKS!

robswift Aug 03, 2008 08:37 PM

I recently purchased a 2 1/2 year old BT from a guy in my town. After bringing her home and letting her explore the house, I noticed that she had a very offensive odor to her. I've tried soaking her for periods at a time, scrubbed her gently with a washcloth, and the smell is still there. I then cleaned her cage from top to bottom hoping that this was the problem. The stench is still there. I was wondering if anyone knew of any reptile cleaning products that might help my problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Specifically, albigs smell funny when your not used to keeping them or being around them. In fact the males smell a certain way, and females slightly different. You cannot get rid of the musty "oak" (or like musty walnut) smell they produce, but in no time at all you wont even notice it anymore.
If the smell is something else you will have to be specific about what it smells like. They usually smell like wet walnuts or wet oak leaves, a bit.

Well, its not that Im not used to being around them. Ive owned many different reptiles over the years and am aware of the "oak" smell that you are talking about. This isnt that smell. Its a hard smell to describe, something along the lines of aged mold or mildew, but not quite.

Maybe a female, they smell differently. My wifes grandfather (RIP) used to refer to the smell from female albigs as "smells like a rat". The males have that strong oak like smell though, just a bit different than females.
I never noticed it with Sobek, maybe Im just used to the smell, or maybe its not so noticeable with a CBB example. The CBB male cross I had gave off a different smell, but still weak compared to that of imported examples I had. The cape banded male I was given once never had a smell I noticed in the entire time with my friend or with myself.
Keep an eye open
